Why Should We Care About Storm Water?

The city of LA has two water drainage systems: sewers and storm drains. Whereas water in the sewer systems undergoes essential filtering, water in storm drains does not.

Untreated water flows into our rivers and ocean, carrying with it debris, litter and other pollutants from our streets.

When we fish, swim or walk along the beach, we are exposed to this pollution and debris. Marine plants and animals suffer constant exposure. At risk are the fragile environments of Santa Monica and San Pedro Bay.
